Procedure
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position. The ECM is located behind the operator compartment. Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.

Remove the ECM from the machine.
Make sure that the replacement ECM has the correct part number.
Install the replacement ECM.
Connect the machine harness to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Make sure that the ECM successfully completes the start-up test.
Determine whether the replacement ECM is programmed. Connect the service tool to the service tool connector of the machine. If the ECM is NOT programmed, the service tool will indicate the problem. An ECM that is NOT programmed must be programmed before use. Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) service tool to flash the ECM. Use the WinFlash icon in order to flash the ECM.If the ECM is programmed, the service tool provides access to the expected areas of the ECM.Select the "Service" menu item with the service tool. Select the "Configuration" function. A list of items will appear. Select the proper items and set the internal parameters. Use the "WinFlash" program to flash the ECM. This information is available from the old ECM or from your dealer.No calibrations are required.
