Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.Note: Lubricate the internal components with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install two backup rings (1) and two O-ring seals (2) onto the terminal bushings.

Illustration 2 shows how isolation plates (3), sealing strips (5) and retainers (4) are to be installed.Note: Be sure that the side of isolation plates (3) that have the round edge around the outer radius is installed face down in the pump body.
Install isolation plates (3), sealing strips (5) and retainers (4) in the pump body.
Do not use force to install pressure plate (6). Hold pressure plate (6) level and install in the pump body.
Install pressure plate (6) in the pump body with the bronze side facing up.

Install drive shaft (7) and gear (8) into the pump body.

Do not use force to install pressure plate (9). Hold pressure plate (9) level and install in the pump body.
Install pressure plate (9) into the pump body with the bronze side facing down towards the gears.

Note: Isolation plates (10) have the same type of edge on each side of the outer radius and can be installed either way in the pump body.
Install isolation plates (10), sealing strips (12) and retainers (11) in the pump body.

Use Tooling (B) in order to install lip seal (15) to flange (16) .
Use Tooling (A) in order to install retaining ring (14) to flange (16) .
Use Tooling (B) in order to install lip seal (13) to flange (16) .
Install plug (17) to flange (16) .

Install two backup rings (18) and two O-ring seals (20) to the terminal bushings.
Install O-ring seal (19) to flange (16) .

Note: Clean check valves (21) before installing flange (16) .
Apply Tooling (C) to the drive shaft splines prior to assembly.
Install flange (16) to the pump body.

Install eight bolts (22) .End By: Install the secondary steering gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Secondary Steering) - Install".
