Normal Starting
To start the engine normally:1. Check that the cutter and wheel control levers are in neutral.2. Move the throttle lever forward to half engine speed or to the speed limiter stop.3. Turn the key switch to "On".4. Turn the starter switch to "Start". If engine fails to start in a few seconds, move the throttle lever to the "Off" position and continue to crank for 10 seconds. This will clear the cylinders of unburned fuel. If the engine fails to start after 30 seconds of cranking, allow the starter to cool for 2 minutes before repeating the starting procedure. PROLONGED CRANKING CAN ACTIVATE THE AUTOMATIC ENGINE SHUTDOWN SYSTEM. IF THE ENGINE WILL NOT START, CHECK THE POSITION OF THE RESET LEVER. SEE PAGE 2-3. 5. Release the starter switch as soon as the engine starts and check for an immediate indication on the engine oil pressure gauge. STOP THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THERE IS NO ENGINE OIL PRESSURE.6. Check for an immediate indication on the auxiliary hydraulic oil pressure gauge. STOP THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THE PRESSURE DOES NOT REACH 2000 PSI WITHIN 5 SECONDS.7. Check the ammeter for a charging (+) indication.8. Allow the engine to warm up until it and the hydraulic oil approach operating temperatures. While the machine is warming up, make another walk-around inspection of the machine, checking for any leaks or loose components.Cold Weather Starting
Many variables can affect cold weather starting. Use the above chart as a guide, but actual experience will determine when aids are necessary and how they should be used. Use glow plugs before cranking the engine, immediately after the engine has started, and until the engine is running smoothly. To use the glow plugs:1. Push in and turn the starter switch to the "Pre-Heat" position and hold for the approximate heating time shown in the chart.2. Turn the starter switch to the "Start" position.3. As soon as the engine starts, turn the starter switch to the "Pre-Heat" position. Hold the switch in this position until the engine is running smoothly.4. Release the switch.
NEVER USE GLOW PLUGS WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM AND RUNNING.
To use starting fluid:1. Heat the glow plugs for the approximate heating time shown in the chart.2. Turn the starter switch to the "Start" position. While cranking, discharge a quick spray of starting fluid into the air cleaner.3. If necessary, repeat the procedure. TOO MUCH STARTING FLUID CAN CAUSE SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE.4. After the engine starts, it may be necessary to return the starter switch to the "Pre-Heat" position until the engine runs smoothly. Then release the switch.
SPRAY STARTING FLUID ONLY WHILE CRANKING THE ENGINE. IF STARTING FLUID IS SPRAYED INTO AN ENGINE THAT IS RUNNING, THE FLUID WILL CAUSE SEVERE PREIGNITION IN ALL CYLINDERS UNTIL THE FLUID IS CONSUMED AND MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE ENGINE SPEED.
STARTING FLUID IS VOLATILE AND MUST BE STORED AWAY FROM HEAT AND DIRECT SUNLIGHT. IF AN AEROSOL CONTAINER IS USED, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CONTAINER.
In very low temperatures, the lubricating
