Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Conventional Method
Operate the machine in order to warm the oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the implement so that the bucket is placed flat on the ground with a slight downward pressure.
Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

The access door to the filler cap and breaker relief valve for the steering and brake hydraulic oil tank is located in the platform on the left-hand side of the cab.

Open access door (1) in the platform on the left-hand side of the cab.
Push the button on the top of breaker relief valve (2) in order to relieve any tank pressure.
Remove hydraulic tank filler cap (3). Remove the strainer from the tube.
Wash the strainer and the filler cap in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
Remove the oil drain plug from the bottom of the hydraulic tank.
Attach a hose to a suitable drain adapter. Install the adapter into the drain plug opening in order to open the internal drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Note: If you are equipped to do so, the hydraulic oil may be pumped directly from the ecology drain valve into a suitable waste oil recovery container.
Never start the engine while the hydraulic oil tank is being drained or while the hydraulic oil tank is empty. Excessive wear and damage to the hydraulic components can occur.
Remove the adapter in order to close the internal drain valve. Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
Replace the hydraulic oil filters for the steering and brake hydraulic system. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Filter (Steering) (Brake) - Replace" for the correct procedure.
Install the filler strainer.
Fill the hydraulic oil tank with clean oil. Make sure that the oil level is visible in the middle portion of the sight gauge when the oil is cool. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct type of oil and for the correct amount of oil.
Start the engine and run the engine for at least 10 seconds. Stop the engine. Add hydraulic oil to the tank until the oil level is visible in the middle portion of the sight gauge when the oil is cool.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Cycle the STIC control so that the steering hydraulic oil lines are filled with oil. Note: Make sure that the oil level is never below the
