Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Alarm will sound either at key ON or sporadically during operation. If fault is triggered at key ON, the alarm will sound, and engine will not start. When the alarm sounds, either Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) or VisionLink will report diagnostic code 247-9 (SAE J1939 Data Link: Abnormal Update Rate).Solution
Disconnect the J1939 wires to eliminate alarms from reoccurring and stop excessive 247-9 (SAE J1939 Data Link: Abnormal Update Rate) faults. This does not affect data transfer since affected machines transfer data on CDL data link and not on J1939 data link. Perform the following procedure to remove and cap J1939 wires on the "C-C1" 155-2256 Connecting Plug Kit (12-pin) on the 452-0543 Wiring Harness:

(1) "C-C1" 155-2256 Connecting Plug Kit (12-pin)
(2) F711-YL(Yellow)
(3) F712-GN(Green)
(4) "C-C2"
Remove the wedge from "C-C1" 155-2256 Connecting Plug Kit (12-pin) (1).
Remove the wire F712-GN(Green) (3) from pin 12.
Remove the wire F711-YL(Yellow) (2) from pin 11.
Install the wedge into the 155-2256 Connecting Plug Kit (12-pin)
Install the 8T-8737 Seal Plugs in pin 11 and 12 of 12-pin plug.
Install the wires F711-YL(Yellow) (2) and F712-GN(Green) (3) (removed in Steps 2 and 3) into 155-2270 Connecting Plug Kit (2-PIN).
Install the wedge into the 155-2270 Connecting Plug Kit (2-PIN).
Install the 8T-8737 Seal Plugs in 2-pin receptacle.
Install the 102-8802 Receptacle Kit (2-PIN) on 2-pin plug.
