Information:

Machine must be level, parking brake applied, equipment lowered to ground, engine stopped and coolant cool. 1. Close inlet valve and outlet valve. Turn both valves to the right to close.2. Remove the coolant conditioner element, discard the element.3. Clean the filter mounting base. Be sure to remove all of the old filter gasket from the base. 4. Install a new coolant conditioner element. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for the correct element to use on your machine.5. Coat the seal of the element with a thin film of clean engine oil.6. Install the element until the seal contacts the base, then tighten 3/4 turn more. 7. Open inlet valve and outlet valve.8. Start the engine and check for leaks.Fan and Alternator Drive Belts
Check - Adjust if Necessary
1. Inspect condition and measure deflection of belts. Belt should deflect 12 mm (1/2 inch) under 110 N m (25 lbs) force. 2. Loosen alternator mounting bolts. Move alternator to tighten belts. Tighten bolts and check amount of deflection. Repeat if necessary.Fan Bearing

Lubricate one fitting.Transmission and Differential Housing
Check Oil Level
Maintain oil level between the ADD OIL and FULL marks on the dipstick.Tandem Drive Housings
Check Oil Level
Measure oil level in each housing, with engine stopped.Maintain oil level within the OPERATING RANGE on the dipstick.Centershift Cylinder

Replace Desiccant Cartridge
Machine must be level, equipment lowered to ground, parking brake applied, engine stopped, disconnect switch to OFF and key removed. 1. Open the drain valves and drain the moisture from both sections of the air reservoir.2. Close both air reservoir drain valves.A small amount of moisture may be present due to condensation in the system.Excessive moisture may be present if air dryer has been installed in a system that has been previously used without an air dryer. Several weeks may be required to completely dry the system. 3. The desiccant cartridge in the air dryer should be rebuilt or replaced when its water absorption capacity is unsatisfactory.4. See your Caterpillar dealer for repair kits and instructions.Air Conditioner
Test Operation
1. Remove compressor access panel.2. Start and run engine at high idle. 3. Set air conditioner for maximum cold with blower on high. Allow two minutes for system to stabilize. 4. If poor cooling is experienced, turn the air conditioner off and stop the engine.5. Check the compressor belt for proper aduustment. Adjust the belt if necessary.To Adjust Belt
1. Inspect the condition and the adjustment of the belt.2. Replace the belt if it is frayed or cracked. 3. Apply 110 N m (25 lb) of force midway between the pulleys. Deflection should be 12 mm (1/2 inch).4. Loosen the compressor mounting bolts, and move the compressor to tighten or loosen the belt. Tighten the bolts and measure the amount of belt deflection. 5. If an adjustment was made to the compressor belt, start the engine and set the air conditioner for maximum cold with the blower on
