Schematic of the "Right-Hand Joystick Thumbwheel"This diagnostic code is associated with the "Right-Hand Joystick" switch. The FMI 04 means that the ECM has determined that the voltage of the circuit for the switch is below normal. The sensor operates at a frequency of approximately 500 hertz. The sensor has an operating duty cycle of 20% to 80%. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit for the switch is shorted to ground.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2531 FMI 04 is active before performing this procedure. Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Access the "thumb wheel sensor ". The sensor is located under the "Right-Hand Joystick". Disconnect the sensor connector from the machine harness.
At the connector for the sensor, place a jumper wire between contact 1(wire X800-OR) and contact 3 (wire M965-GN).
Disconnect machine harness connector J1 from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector of the ECMJ1, measure the resistance between contact J1-44 (wire X800-ORL) and contact J2-41 (wire M965-GN).Expected Result:The resistance measurement is 5 ohms or less. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is 5 ohms or less. The machine harness "connection"for the sensor signal is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms. There is a problem in the machine harness.Repair: There is an open circuit or a faulty connection in the sensor signal circuit for the thumb wheel sensor. The problem is in the sensor signal (wire X800-OR) or in the "sensor supply" (wire M965-GN) from contact J2-41 in the machine harness to the ECM. Repair the machine harness or
