Sudden movement of the machine or release of air under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the air system and brakes:
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel. Stop the engine.2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.3. Activate the parking and emergency brakes. Lower the bowl to the ground. Put blocks in front of and behind the wheels.4. On machines with an axle suspension, move the axle suspension control lever to LOCKDOWN position. Make sure that the tractor frame is down against (resting on) the tractor axle.5. Push on the brake pedal many times until there is no more brake air pressure.6. Make sure all air pressure is released before any fitting, hose or component is loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted. Adjustment Procedure With Air Pressure Available:1. Start the engine and let the air pressure go up to operating range.2. Move the control knob for the parking brake to OFF (brake released) position. Stop the engine.3. Remove the cotter and pin (1).4. Turn starwheel (12) to get a clearance, between shoes (11) and drum (10) of ... 0.25 0.12 mm (.010 .005 in.)5. Move the control knob for the parking brake to ON (brake activated) position.6. Loosen locknut (4) and adjust nut (8) until it is .06 .03 in. (1.5 0.8 mm) from plate (5). Tighten locknut (4).7. Move the control knob for the parking brake to OFF (brakes released) position.8.
