Operating Guidelines for Auger
The "Do's" and the "Don'ts" for correct operation of augers are provided below."Do's"
Ensure that the auger is completely away from the mounting bracket before digging. Raise the auger and tilt the auger forward until the auger is free to swing forward, backward, and sideways.
Ensure that the auger is in a true vertical position upon beginning to dig.
Activate the auxiliary hydraulic control in order to ensure the clockwise rotation of the auger bit before digging.
To begin digging, lower the auger bit to the ground so that the pilot tooth penetrates the ground by about 50 mm (2.0 inch). Activate the auxiliary hydraulic control for clockwise rotation and apply downward pressure that is sufficient to ensure penetration of the auger into the ground. Decrease downward pressure if the auger slows drastically or if the auger stalls.
Maintain the auger in a true vertical position during digging operations. If it is necessary to reposition the machine in order to achieve a true vertical position, raise the auger from the hole prior to maneuvering the machine.
Raise the auger bit from the hole after each 610 mm (24 inch) of penetration in order to remove the dirt from the hole.
Stop downward pressure of the auger bit once the desired depth is reached. Allow the auger bit to rotate a few seconds at the bottom of the hole in order to clean the hole.
Stop rotation of the auger bit after the hole is cleaned. Slowly raise the auger bit from the hole and move away from the hole. Do not reverse the rotation of the auger. If the rotation is reversed, the loose soil will be discharged into the hole.
When the auger has been moved away from the hole, activate the auxiliary hydraulic control in order to rotate the auger and remove the loose soil from the auger bit.
Ensure that the auger teeth and the pilot tooth are in good condition. Check the teeth frequently for wear in order to avoid damage to the tooth holders and to the auger bit.
Replace the teeth as wear is detected. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Auger Bit Tooth - Inspect/Replace" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Pilot Tooth - Inspect/Replace"."Don'ts"
Do not operate the auger when the auger is resting against the mounting bracket.
Do not operate the auger when the auger is not in a true vertical position. It may be necessary to reposition the machine or it may be necessary to consider a new location for the hole.
Do not apply excessive downward pressure to the auger bit during digging. Excessive pressure will cause the auger bit to screw into the ground. If the auger bit becomes stuck
