3516B (8CN, 8KN, 3CW) Marine EnginesDescription of Change: Adding a power supply to the existing throttle position sensors or Master Clear Command and Master Command Systems will eliminate engine speed "burps" that may occur when two or more engines are synchronized. The engines run normal when the throttles are not synchronized.Adaptable To: The speed "burps" can be eliminated by using 145-9929 Power Supplies on the 3500B Engines and the 3500 Engines With EUI Option for the Models listed above. One power supply per engine is required in order to be able to synchronize to either throttle. When the 9X-9647 Throttle Sensor is used, the 145-9929 Power Supply plugs in between the throttle position sensor and the existing harness. When using the Mathers Clear Command or Master Command Systems, use the following procedure:
1. Connect the Mathers system according to the Mathers installation instructions.2. Locate the (-) Batt wire that connects pin 15 of the 24 pin customer connector on the Cat Electronic Instrument Panel to the terminal strip on the Mathers control.3. Disconnect this (-) Batt wire from the Mathers terminal strip.4. On the 145-9929 Power Supply, remove the B wire from the 3 pin Deutsch connector that does NOT have a lock ring.5. Connect this wire to the Mathers terminal strip where the (-) Batt wire was removed in Step 3.6. Take the 145-9929 Power Supply and locate the other 3 pin Deutsch connector WITH the lock ring.7. Remove the A wire and connect to a convenient (+) Batt source.8. Remove the B wire and connect to a (-) Batt source that is common with the engines. You may use the (-) Batt wire that is connected to pin 15 of the 24 pin customer connector that was removed from the Mathers terminal strip in Step 3.9. Tie back the unused wires on the 145-9929 Power Supply.10. Mount the 145-9929 Power Supply in a convenient location that is protected from excess water. If possible, the power supply should be mounted so that the wires coming out of the power supply are pointing downward.11. Repeat this procedure for the other Mathers throttles on the vessel.
