LINING-BRAKE 8V1661 - Caterpillar

The tread diameter of the idlers can be increased on all D4E Tractors if needed. Use the procedure that follows to check if the diameter on idlers needs to be increased.
1. Use approved jacks to lift the machine.2. Remove the tracks from the tractor.3. Put a straight edge against the bottom of the front two track rollers, so that it extends under the idler. The distance from the straight edge to the bottom of the idler tread must not be more than 3.0 mm (.12"). Because the rollers and idlers can be worn out-of-round (not round), this distance must be checked at several positions and an average of the distance used.4. If the distance between the bottom of the idler and the straight edge is more than 3.0 mm (.12"), the idler can be removed and the tread diameter increased by the addition of weld to the idler surface. The distance from the bottom of the idler to the straight edge must be no more than 0-3.0 mm (0-.12") as shown in the illustration.Make reference to Undercarriage Reconditioning Guide, Form SEBF8500, for welding and reconditioning procedures.
