The Cat C175 Generator Sets consist of an engine, a generator, and control systems.Engine Description
C175 Generator Set Engines are electronically controlled diesel engines. The engines have electronic fuel injectors. The engines are equipped with two-stage aftercooling.Engine efficiency and engine performance depend on adherence to proper operation and maintenance recommendations. Use the recommended fuels, lubrication oils, and coolant. Pay special attention to the air cleaner, to the fuel system, to the lubrication system, and to the cooling system maintenance. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for more information on maintenance items. Generator Description
The generator can be used with the following loads: mixed loads of motors and lights, SCR-controlled equipment, computer centers, installations of communications and petroleum drilling applications.The generator set packages can be utilized for prime power generation or emergency power generation.The generators are utilized in three-phase full-wave excitation and regulation. The generators are either four pole or six pole designs. The frame size will determine if the generator has six leads or 12. The generators produce electrical power in either 50 Hz or 60 Hz applications.Oil Mist Detection System (If Equipped)
An excessive concentration of oil mist in the engine crankcase can result in an explosion when the mist contacts a hot surface. Marine Classification Society (MCS) requires all engines rated at 2250kW and above or has cylinder bores of more than 300 mm (11.8 inch) to be provided with a protection system against crankcase explosions. The protection system may take the form of an:
Oil mist detection system
Bearing temperature monitoring system
Alternative systemFor low speed diesel engines. the protection system is to initiate an alarm and automatic slowdown of the engine. The system will initiate an alarm and shutdown of the engine on medium and high-speed engines.For emergency generator sets, the system will only provide an alarm. The operator must provide and wire in a Safety Override Switch for generator sets equipped with a Marine Power Display. A Safety Override Switch is provided as part of the Cat Alarm and Protection System.The Cat C175-16 oil mist detection system is located on the engine side covers on the right side.
