There have been a number of isolated instances of deposits of black soot on the inside surfaces of engine enclosures and on the rear cab beacon at low hours of engine operation. In addition, there have been visual signs of black soot on 256-7902 Air Filter Element As and 256-7903 Air Filter Element As .Two 6N-0009 Metal Seal Rings and a 7C-1371 Exhaust Coupling can provide a better seal between the exhaust elbow and the turbocharger.
If necessary, remove the assembly for the exhaust system.
Remove the existing exhaust elbow and coupling. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the outlet of turbocharger (A) and the exhaust elbow (B). Inspect the sealing faces of the components for wear or damage. Replace any components that are worn or damaged.

Lightly grease one side of the exhaust coupling (3). Lightly grease one metal seal ring (2) and install the metal seal ring (2) to the greased side of the exhaust coupling (3) .
Position the exhaust coupling (3) so that the exhaust coupling is correctly aligned with the outlet of turbocharger (4). Install the exhaust coupling (3) to the outlet of turbocharger (4) .
Lightly grease the other side of the exhaust coupling (3). Lightly grease the second metal seal ring (2) and install the metal seal ring (2) to the exhaust coupling (3) .
Install the other side of the exhaust coupling (3) to the exhaust elbow (1) .
Ensure that exhaust coupling assembly is fully engaged into the outlet of turbocharger (4) and into exhaust elbow (1). Ensure that the gap between the turbocharger and the exhaust elbow is evenly spaced.
Ensure that the exhaust elbow is correctly aligned. Tighten the bolts that secure the exhaust elbow (1) to a torque of 44 N m (32 lb ft).
If necessary, install the assembly for the exhaust system.
