142-6893 Adjustable Hook 1 Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes.
Drain the oil from the transmission into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Lower the ripper to the ground.

Remove bolts (1). Remove cover (2) and lay cover (2) out of the way.

Remove bolts (3). Remove guard (4). The weight of guard (4) is approximately 26 kg (58 lb).

Remove bolts (5). Remove guard (6). Remove bolts (7) in order to separate the transmission from the differential case.

Disconnect hose assembly (8). Remove cover (9) .

Remove cover (10). Disconnect pin assembly (10A). In order to remove linkage assembly.

Remove bolts (11), drive shaft (12), and yoke (13) .

Install Tooling (A). Adjust Tooling (A) to Dimension (Y). Dimension (Y) is 127 mm (5.0 inch).

Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Adjust Tooling (A) to Dimension (X). Dimension (X) is 88.9 mm (3.50 inch).Note: Place a piece of plywood between the cab window and Tooling (A) .

Bolt Tooling (A) to transmission (14). Remove bolts (15) from transmission (14) .
