Weld two 169-1800 Pipes (4) to each of the screed end gates according to the dimensions in Illustration 5 and Illustration 6. The dimensions that are used to place these tubes will depend on the part number of the end gate. The table below indicates the corresponding part numbers of the end gates that are used with the serial number of the screeds. For end gates with 145-9447 Plate Assembly and 145-9448 Plate Assembly, refer to the instructions in Illustration 5. For end gates with 145-9445 Plate Assembly and 145-9446 Plate Assembly, refer to the instructions in Illustration 6. The illustrations for the older shorter end gates that give the dimensions for the location of the tube are not available. When you rework the screeds that have the shorter end gates, locate the 169-1800 Pipes so the pipes are centered in the same location as the previous tubes.

Attach the 149-4855 Support and 170-1747 Support to the base of the jacks. Use the hardware that was removed in Step 3. The supports should be oriented on the jacks so that the chain brackets face the center of each screed end gate.
Place one 6J-3911 Spring over each of the tubes that were welded onto the end gates in Step 5.

Install the end gates on each side of the screed. Ensure that the 6J-3911 Springs slide into the tubes on the bottom side of the 149-4855 Support and 170-1747 Support. Refer to Illustration 7 in order to hook the chains to the support assemblies. This will complete the update for the screed end gate. The chains should be hooked in order to maintain a 100 mm (4 inch) distance between the screed end gate and the bottom of the support assemblies.Note: With the implementation of the change to the new spring assembly, the part numbers for the end gates were changed. When you service the end gates that have been modified according to the procedure above, the new part number for the end gates will need to be ordered in order to ensure proper fitup. The screeds with the older end gates will still need to be serviced with the original part number because the longer end gates are not compatible with the screeds with the shorter end gates. This will require you to put the 169-1800 Pipe onto a replacement end gate that is brought as a service part. The following table gives the new end gate part numbers that should be used to service the previous end gates.
