The VIDS continuously monitors machine systems. The VIDS makes decisions that are based on the inputs that are listed below:

Internal CalculationsThe VIDS sends information to other electronic control modules on the machine. The input and output of this information takes place over the CAT data link. The outputs of the VIDS notify the operator and the service person of the status of the machine systems. The following components are used to display the status of the machine systems:
Quad gauge module
Speedometer/Tachometer module
Message Center
Action Lamps

CAT Data Link
The CAT data link is connected to the VIDS ECM through connector J1 contacts 6 and 7. The CAT data link is used to communicate with the VIDS and the other electronic control modules (engine ECM, implement control ECM and power train ECM) on the machine. The CAT data link is bidirectional. This characteristic allows the modules to transmit information. This characteristic allows the modules to receive information. This also permits sharing of information between all of the electronic control modules that are located on the machine.SPI Data Link
The SPI data link is connected to the VIDS ECM through connector J2 contacts 10, 20, and 28. The SPI data link provides a serial port for the VIDS in order to communicate with the display modules. Power for these modules (connector J2 contact 66) is 12 Volts relative to ground (connector J2 contact 19). The connectors on the harness for these modules can be interchanged in any way with any of the other display modules. This is especially helpful for troubleshooting.Inputs
Battery (unswitched battery line "+")
The unswitched battery input is the input power for the VIDS ECM.Switch Input (Key Start Switch)
The key start switch input (connector J1 contact 46) provides status information about the key start switch (ON or OFF). When the key start switch is in the ON position, this input is connected to "+" battery. When the key start switch is in the OFF position, this input is open or floating. Note: The VIDS will remain powered for five seconds after the keyswitch is turned to the OFF position. During this time, any remaining data is stored in battery-backed memory.Keypad Input
The keypad PWM signal input (connector J1 contact 57) receives information from the keypad.Outputs
Front Action Lamp and Rear Action Lamps ((S/N: AKT), (S/N: 7PZ), and (S/N: AAF))
When a warning category 2 or warning category 3 exists, the VIDS activates the output of the action lamp (connector J1 contacts 24 and 58). This causes the action lamps to FLASH. For more information, refer to the System Operation, "Warning Operation" section of this manual.Front Action Lamp and the Rear Action Lamp ((S/N: 9XR))
