The recoil springs are held between brackets and stops on the track roller frames. The force of the springs is not normally against the tracks. The force against the track sets the curve (sag) of the track. The force against the track is controlled by the mechanism for track adjustment.This describes the operation of the hydraulic mechanism for track adjustment. Pressure grease flows through a fill valve into cavity (7). This pressure moves recoil rod (5) and the front idler toward the front of the machine. The movement of the recoil rod and the front idler tightens the track. The tension on the track is released by a relief valve.
To prevent personal injury, never visually inspect the vent holes or the valves to see if grease or oil is coming out of them. Make sure the vent holes are clean before the tension is released on the track. Watch the front roller frame to see that it moves.
When rocks or debris get between the track and the rotating components (the rollers, the idlers, and the sprocket), recoil rod (5) moves toward the rear of the machine. The movement of the recoil rod tightens the track. Since the grease in cavity (7) does not compress, piston (4) and bolt (9) move toward the rear of the machine. Bolt (9) pushes pilot assembly (8) toward the rear of the machine. Pilot assembly (8) compresses spring (2). The movement of pilot assembly (8) and the compression of spring (2) limit the tension on the track.Nut (1) keeps the recoil spring in compression on the machine.
