This article has been replaced by the following article.Description of Change: New cylinder liners and a new combustion gasket are used on these diesel engines. The new cylinder liners are required for use with the new square cut combustion gasket.Adaptable To: The new 179-3167 Cylinder Liner and the new 179-3168 Cylinder Liner are a direct replacement for the former 116-1042 Cylinder Liner. The former cylinder liner is cancelled. The new 179-3167 Cylinder Liner and the new 179-3168 Cylinder Liner has been designed for use with the new square cut 142-2826 Combustion Gasket .Note: It is acceptable to use the new 179-3167 Cylinder Liner, the new 179-3168 Cylinder Liner, and the former 116-1042 Cylinder Liner in the same engine.Note: The new square cut 142-2826 Combustion Gasket can only be used with the new 179-3167 Cylinder Liner and the new 179-3168 Cylinder Liner. The new square cut 142-2826 Combustion Gasket should not be used with the former 116-1042 Cylinder Liner. The 145-7230 Combustion Gasket can be used with the new 179-3167 Cylinder Liner, the new 179-3168 Cylinder Liner, or the former 116-1042 Cylinder Liner. If the new cylinder liners and the former cylinder liner are used in the same engine, Caterpillar recommends the use of the 145-7230 Combustion Gasket on all of the engine's cylinders.The illustration identifies the different cylinder liners. The table identifies the acceptable combinations of cylinder liners and combustion gaskets.
