Illustration 3 g06125663Note: Chains (7) and devices (6) may be installed in either direction; with devices attached to either J-hooks (2) or D-rings (5).
Install chains (7) and devices (6) on J-hooks (2) and D-rings (5) on ALFA.
Tighten devices (6) by hand in order to take out all slack from chains.
Wrap excess chain around taut section of chain.
Install pintle or ball hitch based on type of hitch on rolling stock.

Unwrap chains (7) and loosen devices (6).
Remove chains (7) and devices (6) from J-hooks (6) and D-rings (5) on ALFA.

Remove J-hooks (2) from fork carriage.
Drive rearward until fork tips are clear of ALFA.

Return both J-hooks (2) to ALFA and secure with pin (3) and retaining pin (4).Hitch Replacement
This procedure is to be used for swapping hitches (pintle or ball type) on ALFA based on type of hitch on rolling stock, or replacing a hitch for maintenance purposes. Both hitches mount on ALFA in same manner using existing hardware.If a 1-7/8 in. or 2 in. ball is required, it must be installed in the smaller (1 in.) hole in the adapter after ball hitch with adapter is installed. The supplied 2- 5/16 in. ball must be removed from the adapter during use of smaller ball hitch. Rated capacity for the ALFA is reduced if using either a 1-7/8 in. or 2 in. ball. Check top of ball for rated capacity.

Remove four nuts (14), bolts (16), eight washers (15), and hitch (17) from front of ALFA.
Remove two clips (12) and hitch (11) from ALFA storage position.
Position hitch (11) to front of ALFA and install eight washers (15), four nuts (14), and bolts (16). Tighten bolts to a torque of 142 N m (105 lb ft).
