Schematic for the Autodig Operation Mode SwitchThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM records an incorrect signal from the operation mode switch. There could be a short to the +battery, a short to ground, or an open circuit.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
A circuit is open.
A circuit is shorted to the +battery.
A circuit is shorted to ground.Note: Table 1 contains wire numbers and connector contacts. Use this information to troubleshoot the failed circuit.

The autodig system cannot be enabled.
The Autodig system is enabled only while the switch is in the momentary position.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code is corrected.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the harness from the ECM.
Activate the switch. At the harness connector for the ECM, check the resistance to ground of the normally closed contacts and the normally open contacts.Expected Result:The resistance check does not agree with Table 1.Results:
YES - The resistance check does not agree with the preceding table. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The resistance agrees with the values in the preceding table. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SWITCH
Disconnect the harness from the switch.
At the switch, check the resistance to ground of the normally closed contacts and the normally open contacts. Activate the switch when this check is being performed.Expected Result:The resistance check does not agree with the values in Table 1.Results:
YES - The resistance check does not agree with the preceding table.Repair: The switch or the switch harness has failed. Repair the switch or replace the switch. Stop.
NO - The resistance check agrees with the preceding table. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK FOR A SHORT
Check the resistance from each switch contact at the harness connector for the ECM to all other contacts in J1 and J2.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5 ohms.Repair: The harness has failed. Repair the harness or replace the harness. Stop.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The harness circuit is correct.Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this troubleshooting procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Stop.
