The front face of flywheel housing, both sides of flywheel housing and rear face of block must be free of oil, dirt, water, assembly compounds, and other contaminants during assembly.
Immediately prior to assembling, apply a continuous bead of ultra black Loctite 598 to the area (5) and to the end of the gasket. Remove excess sealant from the flange with straight edge following housing assembly.
Again apply ultra black Loctite 598 to the area (6) and the T- joint immediately after installation of the pan gasket.
In both the instances, the sealant application should span the entire width of the T- joint to be sealed.
1 4 0L-1351 Bolt Apply blue Loctite 243 to the threads of the bolts.
2 1 161-7293 Cylinder Gasket After assembly, trim the gasket to flush with face of the flywheel housing (3).
- - Use the following procedure to tighten the flywheel housing bolts:
8 5L-4398 Bolt 1. Tighten bolt 1 through bolt 8 in the numerical sequence as shown in the Illustration 1 to 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).
2 0S-1619 Bolt 2. Tighten bolt 9 through bolt 20 in the numerical sequence as shown in the Illustration 1 to 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).

- - 3. Again, tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 8 in the numerical sequence as shown in the Illustration 1 to 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).
- - 4. Again, tighten the bolt 9 through bolt 20 in the numerical sequence as shown in the Illustration 1 to 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).
4 1 8T-6761 Pipe Plug After assembly, the pipe plug must not protrude above the surface of the flywheel housing.
