REMOVE CERTAIN SPIDER GEAR BEARINGS FROM PARTS STOCKS 621B, 623B, 627B Tractors; 769C Trucks, 3258, PI7006 U-21 A-19 AU-17 B-9 C-20 E-19 O-17 Problem Some parts stocks of the spider gear bearings for use in differentials in the above models may not have a proper surface coating. All these bearings should have a black, coarse manganese phosphate coating on the surface. This is required for lubrication and long life. Some bearings have a grey or black, smooth (or fine) surface finish. These may have unsatisfactory life in some applications due to lack of lubrication. Action Requested Inspect all parts stocks of 5D5498 Bearings and 6D741 Bearings in your parts stocks. Remove from stocks any bearings under either part number that have a grey, smooth surface finish. See Illustration. If some bearings are dark grey or nearly black in color, but have a smooth surface finish, they too should be removed from stocks. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) All bearings with a black, coarse surface finish are satisfactory and should be used. Warranty Allowances List all the bearings removed from stocks on one PIP claim. Refer to January 17, 1983 Service Letter, Illustration 1, for new PIP number format. Type this bearing PIP as "PI7006". COSA dealers refer to COSA General Letter of January 11, 1983. Parts Disposition U.S. and Canadian dealers should return the bearings to the Pioneer Park Claims Room, Attention: J. B. Meyers. Send the Factory Service Engineering Copy (black or legible copy) of the claim with the parts. Send the blue copy to AB6D (Canadian AB6C) noting on this copy that the parts have been sent to Pioneer Park Claims Room. All other dealers should dispose of the parts in accordance with their Warranty Bulletin, "Warranty Parts Handling". Termination Date June 30, 1983.
