New tailgate locking pins, tailgate decals, and lifting/tiedown films need to be installed on the products listed below. The locking pins are a simpler design for ease of use. The decals and films are to the latest revision levels. Earlier decals and films may contain insufficient or incorrect information.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated December 8, 2000 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.

Machine Preparation:
Park the machine on level ground.
Lower the body tailgate to prevent accidental lowering while personnel are working in the tailgate area. Refer to the illustration and procedure below to lower the tailgate.
A service switch (5) is provided in order to allow the operator to inch the ejector blade in a forward direction or a backward direction. The service switch has two positions. The service switch must first be pushed in. Turn the service switch in a clockwise direction in order to select service operation. Turn the switch in a counterclockwise direction in order to return to normal operation.
The ejector blade can be extended by using the eject button (1). The ejector blade can be retracted by using the retract button (2). Depress the button in order to move the ejector blade in the required direction. Release the button in order to stop the ejector blade.
Turn the service switch to the service operation (clockwise), then start the engine and push the eject button. Hold the button in until the ejector blade has reached the end of its travel and the tailgate has fully opened. Release the button.
Shut down the engine and turn the battery disconnect switch OFF.
Procedure:
Install Tailgate Locking Pins
Remove all traces of dirt, oil, grease and paint from the rear of the body, in the area shown in the illustration below, in preparation for welding.
Position one of the 194-0862 Brackets (item 19 in the illustration below) using the dimensions shown below. Position the bracket so that the anti-rotation tab for the pin is uppermost. Permanently attach the bracket to the body by fully welding in the 2 circular pockets.
Remove weld spatter, and dress welds flush to bracket surface. Re-finish paintwork as required.
Repeat steps 1 ?
