Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Ensure that the engine oil pan is fully supported before the oil pan is removed. Particular care must be taken with the cast iron version of the engine oil sump as this version is heavy.
Illustration 1 g01237433
Remove all dirt, oil, and grease from the exterior surfaces of the oil pan (9).
Operate the engine until the engine is warm. Stop the engine.
If necessary, remove the nut (10), the seal, and the tube assembly from the engine oil pan (9).
Remove the oil drain plug (6) and the O-ring (5). Discard the O-ring (5). Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Remove the setscrews (4), (7) and (8) from the engine oil pan (9).
Remove engine oil pan (9) and remove the joint (1) from the cylinder block. Discard the joint (1).
Clean the engine oil pan (9) with a suitable cleaning fluid. Ensure that all of the cleaning fluid is removed. Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: If the bridge for the cylinder block and/or the timing case have just been installed the engine oil pan must be installed before the sealant has cured.Note: Ensure that any old sealant is removed from the mating surfaces of the engine oil pan when the sump is installed.
Clean the flange face of the engine oil pan (9) and the flange face of the cylinder block. Note: When the joint for the engine oil pan is removed, damage may occur to the existing sealant in the bridge of the cylinder block.
Illustration 2 g01237469
Typical example
If the sealant is damaged, apply a sufficient amount of Tooling (A) in order to fill the groove (1).
Illustration 3 g01237471
Typical example
Also, apply a sufficient amount of Tooling (A) if the sealant between the cylinder block and the front cover is damaged.
Illustration 4 g01237433
Typical example
Install the two studs (2) to the engine oil pan (9).
Carefully position the joint (1) over the studs (2). Ensure that the engine oil pan is properly supported while the engine oil pan (9) is installed onto the studs (2). The engine oil pan is heavy. Note: New setscrews have sealant on the first 13 mm (0.5 inch) of the threads. In order to reuse the old setscrews, clean the old sealant from the setscrews and apply Tooling (B) to the setscrews.
Install the nuts (3) to the studs (2). Install the setscrews (8) in order to secure the engine oil pan (5) to the cylinder block. Tighten the nuts (3) to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb
