Safety Shut-Off Controls
Natural gas engine safety shut-off controls are used to provide a means of automatically stopping the engine to prevent damage to the engine resulting from dangerously low lubricating oil pressure and/or high water temperature.The terminal on the magneto which is normally connected to a magneto switch is connected to a magnetic switch on the safety shut-off control, located behind the instrument panel. The button (1) is a reset button for the magnetic switch. The manual stop button (4) is connected to the magnetic switch. The stationary contacts in the oil pressure gauge (2) and in the water temperature gauge (3) are also connected to the magnetic switch. In the event of low oil pressure of high water temperature, the gauge pointer touches the stationary contact and grounds the magnetic switch. Magneto power then causes the magnetic switch to ground the magneto and stop the engine. Whenever the safety shut-off control has stopped the engine, the cause should be determined and corrected before starting the engine.

1-Magnetic switch reset button. 2-Oil pressure gauge. 3-Water temperature gauge. 4-Manual stop button. 5-Oil pressure gauge reset button. Reset Buttons: Magnetic switch reset button (1) and oil pressure gauge reset button (5) must be pushed whenever the safety shut-off control has stopped the engine or the manual stop button has been pushed to stop the engine.If the engine is equipped with a safety shut-off gas valve it must be manually reset with the reset lever located on the side of the valve. Whenever the shut-off controls have stopped the engine, the engine should be purged of gas before cranking the engine.
