(3) Use a feeler gauge to measure the end play. End play of the connecting rod should be within 0.15 to 0.35 mm (0.006 to 0.014 inch).Note: Replace the connecting rod if the end play exceeds 0.50 mm (0.020 inch).

Assemble the piston (4) and connecting rods. Ensure that the markings (5) on the piston and the marks (1) on the connecting rod are on the same side.

Install the piston assembly with the marks (1) on the connecting rod toward the camshaft (6) .

(F) Piston projectionUse the following procedure to measure the height of each piston above the cylinder block. If clearances are not in the acceptable range, inspect the components for wear or damage.
Determine the top center position of the piston with a dial indicator assembly.
Install the dial indicator assembly on the top of the block. Set the needle of the dial indicator to zero.
Measure projection (F) at three places on the top of the piston. Take an average of the three measurements in order to determine the projection.
