System Operation Description:Use this procedure to troubleshoot a suspected problem with the exhaust temperature monitor or the exhaust temperature sensors. Also use this procedure if one of the diagnostic codes in Table 1 is active or easily repeated.

1489-19 Left Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature Sensor : Data Error The exhaust temperature module has detected a problem with the left turbocharger outlet temperature sensor. The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
1490-19 Right Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature Sensor : Data Error The exhaust temperature module has detected a problem with the right turbocharger outlet temperature sensor.
1491-19 Right Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature Sensor : Data Error The exhaust temperature module has detected a problem with the right turbocharger inlet temperature sensor.
1492-19 Left Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature Sensor : Data Error The exhaust temperature module has detected a problem with the left turbocharger inlet temperature sensor.
2857-9 Exhaust Temperature Module abnormal update rate The ECM has not received several messages that were expected from the exhaust temperature monitor over the CAN data link. The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.

Exhaust temperature module
The exhaust temperature module is an electronic monitoring system used to monitor exhaust temperatures. The module monitors the following thermocouples:
Thermocouples for each cylinder exhaust port
Thermocouples at the inlet of each turbocharger
Thermocouples at the outlet of each turbochargerThe module will display each of these temperatures. The exhaust temperature module sends this information via the CAN data link to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the optional remote control panel. The exhaust temperature module has two switches that can be wired to alarms or to relays. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, KENR5473, "Exhaust Temperature Module" for additional information.If the ECM cannot communicate with the exhaust temperature module, the ECM activates a diagnostic code related to identify the problem.
