Remove the spring (1) from plate (7) .
Remove the cable (2) from the plate (7) .
Remove the 176-2455 Spring (3).
Remove the cable (4) for the underspeed valve (8) from the plate.
Remove the cable (5) .
Remove the two bolts (6) and the plate 153-5524 Plate (7) .

(A) 6.6 mm (0.260 inch) (B) 15.2 mm (0.598 inch) (C) 76.5 mm (3.012 inch)
Drill a hole 6.6 mm (0.260 inch) in diameter through the plate. Dimension (C) is 76.5 mm (3.012 inch). Dimension (B) is 15.2 mm (0.598 inch).
Install the 153-5524 Plate (7) with the two bolts (6). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 13 3 N m (10 2 lb ft).
Install the cable (5) .
Move the cable (4) for the underspeed valve to the new hole in the 153-5524 Plate . Use a new 3B-4607 Cotter .
Install cable (2) .
Install spring (1) .Underspeed Valve

Remove the cable (4) from underspeed valve (8) and bracket (9) .
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.
Remove the 142-9418 Underspeed Valve (8) .

(8) Underspeed Valve (5) Orifice
Remove the orifice plate (5) in the 142-9418 Underspeed Valve (8) .
Check size of orifice plate (5).

Remove the bracket (9) .

Drill a 3.6 mm (0.1417 inch) hole in diameter in the bracket. See Illustration 6.

(B) Tighten the nut to 38 2 N m (28 1.5 lb ft). (3) Spring (4) Cable (9) Bracket
Install the bracket (9) .
Install the cable (4) in the bracket (9) .Note: B Tighten the nut to 38 2 N m (28 1.5 lb ft).
Install the cable (4) with a pin into the center hole. See Illustration 7.Note: If necessary, rotate the underspeed valve in order to install the pin.
Secure the pin of the cable with the end of the 176-2455 Spring (3). Insert the other end of the spring into the hole in the bracket. See Illustration 7.Note: The 176-2455 Spring (3) was removed in step 4 of the Rework of the Governor.Adjustment of the machine
The machine will require adjustment.
Start the machine.
Reset low idle to 800 50 RPM. Adjust the signal pressure to 1000 135 kPa (145 20 psi).
Set the idle to a rated engine speed of 2400 20 RPM. Adjust the signal pressure to 2620 135
