Start By:a. remove undercarriage frame assembly 1. Put an alignment mark on the swing gear and bearing and the undercarriage frame assembly for assembly purposes.2. Remove bolts (2) that hold swing gear and bearing (1) to the undercarriage frame assembly. 3. Fasten Tool (A) to the swing gear and bearing with suitable size bolts, washers and nuts as shown. Remove swing gear and bearing (1) from the undercarriage frame assembly. The weight of the swing gear and bearing is 2150 kg (4730 lb). 4. Thoroughly clean the swing gear and bearing. Remove dust seal (3) from the inner race of the swing gear and bearing.5. Clean the sealing groove of the inner race with fine grit sandpaper; then use a cleaning solvent to clean the seal groove. Be sure the seal groove is thoroughly clean and dry prior to installing the new dust seal. The following steps are for the installation of the swing gear and bearing.6. Lay a new dust seal (3) around the inner race to determine the required length. Cut the new seal approximately 1.000 cm (0.3937 in) shorter than the required length. Cut the seal at a 90 degree angle. Use a file to smooth the cross section cut of the seal.7. Install new dust seal (3) in the inner race using Be sure to put adhesive on the cross section cut in the seal. Install the seal with the lip facing as shown in Illustration D11837.8. Lubricate the swing gear and bearing with grease. 9. Clean the mating surface for the swing gear and bearing on the undercarriage frame assembly. Put 1U-8846 Gasket Maker on the mating surface. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to swing gear and bearing (1), and put it in its original position on the undercarriage frame assembly. Be sure the alignment of the inner ring to the carbody is made by positioning the stamp mark "S" (4) on the inner ring 90 degrees counter clockwise relative to (5) the main load direction (boom direction).10. Alignment of the outer ring is determined by the centering pin (6) located opposite the main load direction (5). Positioning of the stamp mark "S" (7) on the outer ring is 90 degrees counter clockwise to centering pin (6). The "S" on the inner ring should be directly opposite the "S" on the outer ring with the machine facing forward.11. Put a thin coat of Loctite 277 on the threads of bolts (2). Install bolts (2) that hold the swing gear and bearing to the undercarriage frame assembly.12. Add 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease to the swing gear and bearing.
