Remove the rear wheels.
Release the system pressure.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Remove the two bolts, the two washers, and rubber flashing (1).

Remove the four bolts, the four washers, and cover plate (2).

Remove the eight bolts, the eight washers, cover plate (3), and the O-ring seal.
Remove the four bolts, the four washers, and cover plate (4).

Remove the two cotter keys, the plate, and the master link to separate chain (5). Remove chain (5) from the sprocket on the propel motor. Be sure to secure chain (5) to the case so that the chain does not fall into the bottom of the case.

Remove the two bolts, the two washers, and harness assembly (8) from piston motor assembly (7).
Disconnect six hose assemblies (6) from piston motor assembly (7).

Support piston motor assembly (7) using Tooling (A). The weight of piston motor assembly (7) is approximately 74 kg (163 lb). Using Tooling (A), remove eight bolts (9), the eight washers, and piston motor assembly (7).Installation Procedure
Install piston motor assembly (7) in the reverse order of removal.
Apply Tooling (B) to the eight bolts securing piston motor assembly (7).
Apply Tooling (B) to the eight bolts securing cover plate (3).
Apply a continuous 3 1 mm (0.12 0.04 inch)bead of Tooling (C) to cover plate (4).
Apply Tooling (B) to the four bolts securing cover plate (4).
Apply Tooling (B) to the four bolts securing cover plate (2).End By:
Install the rear wheels.
