"Application string" is a term used to describe the phrases and sentences that are displayed to the operator, either in pop-up messages, dialogs, or in the Diagnostics file. The strings are translated and stored in CAES\exe in language (*.dl" ) files, one for each language. When a new version of the on-board software is released, new language files are included for all supported languages. The upgrade process overwrites the existing language files. Most of the application strings for supporting a specific language are in the resource file. This file enables the on-board software to use a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file. The DLL will contain all the strings that are displayed to an operator. The DLL will also include most of the diagnostic strings. The DLL may be selected by the operator. The office can also select the DLL by sending a command to activate the file of the resource DLL.Customers or support personnel can modify the application strings using specific tools. Use the tools to:
Change bitmaps if a different icon is desired.
Copy strings from one language file to another in order to update a new language file with customized strings.
Customize a language file for a specific site.
Modify dialogs to provide adequate space for the translated strings. Note: Keep a copy of the original set of resources in the CAES\exe folder.Dialogs can be modified to make room for translated strings, and bitmaps can be changed to display a different icon.To modify the language file, use tools such as ResourceHacker.
