Wheel Loaders:
994 (S/N: 9YF1-UP)
Disassembly and Assembly, SENR4747, "994 Wheel Loader Power Train", "Differential and Bevel Gear". This module is part of Service Manual, SENR4740.A portion of the existing information is incorrect. Replace steps 17 and 30 of , "Assemble Differential and Bevel Gear" with the following information.
Make sure that the assembly is clean. Lubricate both of the bearings with clean axle oil while the pinion shaft is rotated. Check the rolling torque of the pinion. The rolling torque of the pinion should be 2.3 N m (20 lb in) to 2.8 N m (25 lb in). The rolling torque should be reduced by 50% for bearings with more that 100 service hours. Tighten the nut until the correct rolling toque is reached. No endplay should exist in the assembly.
Tighten the adjusting nut until a rolling torque of 5.6 N m (50 lb in) to 9.3 N m (82 lb in) is reached. The rolling torque should be reduced by 50% for bearings with more that 100 service hours. Tighten the nut until the correct rolling toque is reached. No endplay should exist in the assembly.Note: When replacing the pinion shaft bearings with new bearings, there is a risk of premature failure if the bearing is subjected to high speeds prior to normal break-in. To properly break in the new bearings, limit the travel speed of the machine to first or second gear until the machine has achieved 10 hours of normal operation, such as digging and truck loading. Do not operate the machine in third gear during the break in period.
