Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components. At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
1. Remove two bolts (1) and cover (2). 2. Remove four bolts (3) and cover (4). 3. Remove ten bolts (5), the washers, cover (6) and the gasket.4. Remove eleven bolts (8), the washers and guard (9). Remove cover (7) and the gasket. 5. Disconnect the wiring harness from connector (10). Remove the nut from connector (10).
Before removing transmission hydraulic control valve (11), be sure sleeves (12) are moved into the transmission input cover, clear of the transmission hydraulic control valve. Move the wiring harness and connector (10) clear of the transmission housing before removing the transmission hydraulic control valve.
6. Remove bolt (13) and the washer holding sleeves (12) in position.7. Push sleeves (12) into the transmission input cover and clear of the transmission hydraulic control valve. The transmission hydraulic control valve is held in to the transmission with four bolts (14). Bolts (14) are marked an "X" in the above illustration.8. Remove four bolts (14) from the transmission hydraulic control valve.9. Fasten a suitable lifting strap and hoist to the existing lifting eye (15) in the transmission hydraulic control valve. Carefully remove transmission hydraulic control valve (11) from the transmission. The weight of the transmission hydraulic control valve is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).
