Remove the tailgate cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tailgate Cylinder - Remove".

Attach appropriate nylon lifting slings and a hoist to tailgate (1) .
Remove bolt (2), bolt (3), the washers, and the nuts. Remove link (4) from the machine. Remove the two spacer pins from the link.
Remove bolt (5), the washer, and the nut that secures pin (6). Remove the pin that secures two plates (7) to the machine. Use two people in order to remove the pin and the two plates. The weight of each plates is 10 kg (22 lb).

Remove grease fitting (8) from shaft (9). Remove the grease fitting from the shaft on the other side of the tailgate.
Remove bolt (10), the washer, and the nut that secures shaft (9) to bracket (11) and tailgate (1). Remove the bolt, the washer, and the nut from the other side of the tailgate.

Use Tooling (A) in order to remove shaft (9) from tailgate (1) and bracket (11). Remove the spacers. Remove the shaft and the spacers from the other side of the tailgate.
Use the hoist in order to remove the tailgate from the truck body. The tailgate weighs 227 kg (500 lb). Remove the hoist and the lifting straps from the tailgate.
