At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Hot coolant and hot components can cause severe burns. Do not allow hot coolant or hot components to contact the skin.
Obtain S O S samples as close as possible to the recommended sampling interval. In order to receive the full effect of S O S analysis, establish a consistent trend of data. In order to establish a pertinent history of data, perform consistent samplings that are evenly spaced. Supplies for collecting samples can be obtained from your Cat dealer.

(1) Sampling valve for the cooling system circuit (3516B and 3516C engine). Sampling valve (1) for the jacket water cooling system is located on the right side of the engine. Obtain the sample when the engine is cool and operating at low idle.

(2) Sampling valve for the separate circuit aftercooler (SCAC water-cooled aftercooler system) (if equipped with a 3516B engine). Sampling valve (2) (if equipped) for the water-cooled aftercooler system is located on the left side of the engine. Obtain the sample when the engine is cool and operating at low idle.Submit the sample(s) for Level 2 analysis.Refer to the following publications for S O S information:
