Some plugshave been made from the wrong material. The wrong plug will eventuallywork loose resulting in exhaust gas leak. Youwill not be charged for the service performed.Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediatelyto schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time requiredto complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letterdated January 25, 2002 when scheduling this service.We regret the inconvenience this may causeyou, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible toprevent unscheduled downtime.

Inspection:Note: When possible, check turbo plugs atthe next engine service interval.A simple test with a magnet will determine right fromwrong plug material.Check the plug on the turbochargerof the machines where the engine serialnumber is in the range indicated. (seeFigure 1) with a magnet.
If the magnet sticks to the plug, the turbo is OK.Mark the turbocharger aluminum compressorhousing with white paint, indicating over-check has been carried out andthen nothing more needs to be done.
If the magnet does NOT stick to the plug, the incorrectplug has been installed and the turbocharger and associated gaskets mustbe replaced.
