Assembly Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Verify that all of the components of the torque converter outlet relief valve are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.Note: Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary. Lubricate O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install O-ring seal (18), nipple assembly (19), and dust cap (20) to pressure relief valve (2). Install plug (16) and (17) to torque converter outlet relief valve (2).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install poppet (15), spring (14), retainer (13), and retaining ring (12) in spool (6).

Install spacers (7) and spring (8) to spool assembly (6).
Install spool assembly (6) in torque converter outlet relief valve (2).
Install O-ring seal (5), cover (4), the washers, and bolts (3) to torque converter outlet relief valve (2). Tighten two bolts (3) to a torque of 48 7 N m (35 5 lb ft).
Install O-ring seal (9), cover (10), the washers, and bolts (11) to torque converter outlet relief valve (2). Tighten two bolts (11) to a torque of 48 7 N m (35 5 lb ft).

Install three O-ring seals (1) to torque converter outlet relief valve (2).
The following steps outline the procedure for determining the correct number of spacers to be installed in the torque converter outlet relief valve.
Attach the torque converter outlet relief valve to the test stand. Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 48 4 N m (35 3 lb ft).
Supply oil at a rate of 132.5 0.8 L (35 .2 US gal) to the torque converter outlet relief valve.
Maintain a pressure of 345 15 kPa (50 2 psi) at the inlet of the torque converter outlet relief valve.
Maintain a back pressure of 276 kPa (40 psi) at the outlet of the torque converter outlet relief valve.
Add the spacers or remove the spacers in order to maintain the specified flow of oil.
Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Torque Converter" for pressure changes per spacer. End By:
Install the torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Install".
