(16) Wet multiple discs type service brake Power from the drive shaft turns the bevel pinion (13) in the front axle. The power enters the axle through the bevel pinion. The bevel pinion turns the bevel gear (14) which is fastened to the differential case.Power is transferred through the differential by pinions (12) and side gears (11) to splined shaft (10). The shaft is joined by a splined coupler (9) to the sun gear (8) in the final drives. The main components of the final drives are the carrier (16), the planetary gear set (5), ring gear (6) and sun gear . Each final drive has the same components. The final drives cause the last speed reduction and the torque increase in the drive train.Three planetary gear sets (5) are mounted in the carrier (15).As the sun gear (8) is driven by the differential, the planetary gears are forced to revolve around the inside ring of the gear. The movement of the planetary gears around the ring gear causes the planetary carrier and the wheel hub to rotate. This transfers power to the rim and the tire which bolts to the flange on the axle shaft.Differential Lock (if equipped)
Illustration 3 g03345078The button for the differential lock (17) is a foot controlled switch that is located on the left floor board of the operator station. The button for the differential lock (17) is a foot controlled switch that is located on the left floor board of the operator station. The button for the differential lock (17) will lock the front and rear differentials. Push the button and hold the button in order to activate the lock. Release the button in order to unlock the differentials. The differential will be damaged if the differential lock is engaged at running condition.
