Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.There have been isolated instances of issues with the Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) on C1.5 and C2.2 engines.Certain active diagnostic trouble codes may be displayed when there is an issue with the ARD. Other diagnostic trouble codes may appear depending upon the engine and application configuration. Refer to Troubleshooting for more information.Safety Section
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

459-9049 ARD rework kit 1 Note: The ARD rework kit consists of one gauze for the ARD, one 9 mm (0.35 inch) orifice plate one gasket for the ARD top cover and two bolts.Removal Procedure
Verify if the ARD rework kit has been installed to the engine. If the ARD rework kit has been installed to the engine, follow the diagnostic procedures as detailed in Troubleshooting. If the ARD rework kit has not been installed, proceed to Step 2.
Reflash the ECM with the latest flash file. Refer to Troubleshooting, Flash Programming for the correct procedure.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

Disconnect harness assembly (1) and harness assembly (2) from the flame detection temperature sensor and the glow plug for the ARD.
Remove the flame detection temperature sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Flame Detection Temperature Sensor - Remove and Install for the correct procedure.

Remove bolts (3) from top cover (4) of the ARD. Remove top cover (4).

Remove gauze assembly (5) for the ARD. Remove the gauze from the enclosure.

Remove existing gasket (6) from the ARD. Discard the gasket. Ensure that the sealing surfaces are clean and free from debris.

Remove bolts (7) and orifice plate (8) from the ARD. Discard orifice plate.Installation Procedure

Install a new orifice plate (8) to the ARD. Install bolts (7). Tighten bolts to a torque of 10 N m (89 lb in).

Install existing enclosure (9) for the gauze to the ARD. Ensure that cut out at position (X) is on the side of the fuel injector for the ARD.
