Problem Solving
This is a reference for locating and correcting problems that may occur in the power control system. In all instances, visual checks of the machine should be made first and then operational checks before proceeding with the instrument tests.Visual Checks
1. Check the oil level2. Check the shear pin in the drive shaft assembly couplings3. Check the linkage and ball joints for unnecessary binding or for being too loose.
INSTALLING A NEW SHEAR PINOperational Check List
Operate the engine until the lubricating oil is reasonably warm. Move the power controls to operate the blade lifts, the circle reverse and the rack side shift. Listen for unusual noise. PROBLEM: Control lever will not engage the output shaft clutch. PROBABLE CAUSE:1- Shear pin in drive shaft assembly coupling broken.2- Clutch jaws rounded or broken. PROBLEM: Control lever does not return when released. PROBABLE CAUSE:1- Broken spring in cartridge assembly.2- Clutch binding on output shaft. PROBLEM: Output shaft rotates when control lever is released. PROBABLE CAUSE:1- Clutch jaw tooth hang-up in transfer gear.2- Clutch binding on output shaft.3- Brake spring broken.4- Broken spring in cartridge assembly. PROBLEM: Ratchet sound after control lever is released. PROBABLE CAUSE:1- Broken spring in cartridge assembly.2- Clutch binding on output shaft.Power Control Adjustment
The clearance between shear pin drive coupling (3) and driven coupling (2) is .009 .003 in. (0,23 0,07 mm). The end clearance of shaft (6) is .005 .002 in. (0,13 0,05 mm).
POWER CONTROL-CROSS SECTION
1-Bevel gear retaining nut. 2-Driven coupling. 3-Drive coupling. 4-Worm gear retaining nut. 5-Cover. 6-Worm shaft. 7-Shims.If it is necessary to adjust the clearance between driven coupling (2) and drive coupling (3), drain the oil and mark the location of bolts which retain cover (5). The bolts must be returned to their respective locations in the cover.Remove cover (5), remove the cotter and loosen worm gear retaining nut (4). Place a .009 in. (0,23 mm) shim between couplings (2 and 3) and tighten nut (4). Remove the shim from between the couplings, install the cotter in nut (4) and recheck the clearance between couplings (2 and 3).When the coupling clearance is correct, install cover (5) making sure the bolts are installed in their correct locations.Add or remove shims (7) to adjust the end clearance of shaft (6). Each 8B3005 shim is .010 in. (0,25 mm) and each 8B3006 shim is .005 in. (0,13 mm).The torque value of bevel gear retaining nut (1) is 90 10 lb. ft. (12,4 1,4 mkg).If it is necessary to remove the third clutch from the left from the power control, first remove the clutch either to the right or left of it. Then remove the clutch. When the forward end of the clutch output shaft just clears the inside of the housing, move the clutch assembly to the right or left to facilitate removal of the clutch forward gear.
REMOVING A POWER CONTROL CLUTCH ASSEMBLYClutches at each end of the clutch housing control the operation of the blade lift. Remove the plug from the bevel gear housing when preparing to install
