Bolt tightening sequence
Note: Examine bolts (1) for wear or for damage. Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8301, "Inspection and Reuse of Critical Fasteners Used in All Engines". Replace with new bolts (1), if necessary.

1 26 290-6884 Cylinder Head Fastener Gp Use the following procedure in order to tighten the cylinder head bolts:
Refer to the Illustration 1 for cylinder head bolt tightening sequence.
Lightly lubricate the threads of the bolts with clean engine oil before assembly.
1. Tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
2. Again, tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
3. Place a mark on bolt 1 through bolt 26. Tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to an angle of 90 degrees (1/4 turn).
4. Loosen bolt 1 through bolt 26 until the washers are loose under the bolt heads.
5. Tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
6. Again, tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
7. Place a mark on bolt 1 through bolt 26. Tighten bolt 1 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to an angle of 90 degrees (1/4 turn).
8. Tighten bolt 27 through bolt 32 in a numerical sequence to 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).

- - - Height of the new cylinder head is 163.00 0.15 mm (6.417 0.006 inch).

F - - Installation depth for cup plug (4) is 3.75 0.50 mm (0.148 0.020 inch).
G - - Installation depth for cup plug (5) is 1.00 0.50 mm (0.039 0.020 inch).
