NEW PLUGS STOP LEAKAGE PAST CALIPER BRAKE COVERS ON 950B LOADERS, 4251, 4256, PS0250 U-43 A-21.1 C-32 O-28.1 See June 11, 1986 parts stock action needed support after failure only This is the first Service Letter with the new Support Logo for a product Support Program (PSP). This Logo includes "parts stock action needed" because Dealer Parts Departments must purge parts stock. Any claim for parts stock should use the PSP number. The form number of the Service Letter has been moved from the bottom right to the top right of Page 1.
Problem
Flanges on the 4V4853 (aluminum) Plugs under the caliper brake cover are oversize. This can cause damage to the seal under the plug and oil leakage past the cover. A 6W7379 (aluminum) Plug with correct flange thickness is now used. Flange thickness of this plug is the same as the thickness of the earlier steel plug, so the 6W7379 Plug can be used in caliper brakes on earlier 950B Loaders.

Quantities for each wheel brake: 3-6W7379 Plug 3-4V4850 Seal
Action Required
Remove all 4V4853 Plugs from parts stock. Also check parts stock for 5V4271 Brake Groups. 4V4853 Plugs can be identified by a date code stamped on the caliper brake cover. If these brake groups have date codes 1-83 (January 1983) through 3-84 (March 1984), replace the 4V4853 Plugs and seals with the listed plugs and seals. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) This program applies to listed affected product provided two conditions exist: 1. Oil leakage past a caliper brake cover 2. Date code from 1-83 through 3-84 on cover If the program applies to a caliper brake, check the date codes on the other three brakes. Each of the other three brakes with date codes 1-83 through 3-84 should also be reworked with new parts. WARRANTY ALLOWANCES (SEE ILLUSTRATION) Labor allowance is one hour per brake reworked. This is a one hour job per brake. Submit a separate claim for 4V4853 Plugs removed from parts stock.
