start by: a) remove recoil springs and hydraulic track adjusters as a unit 1. Remove cylinder (1) and plate (2) from the pilot.
The recoil spring is assembled with a force of 25 tons (22.7 M tons). The correct tooling and procedure must be used during disassembly of the recoil spring.
2. Fasten a hoist and put the spring in position in tooling (A).3. Put the spring under compression until there is about .50 in. (12.7 mm) clearance between the nut and pilot. Remove the nut from the center bolt and slowly release the compression on he spring. The rod (3) on the cylinder must be completely extended when the spring is under compression. This will give enough clearance to release the spring tension.4. Remove spring, bolt and pilots from tooling (A).Assemble Recoil Springs
1. Put spring, pilots and bolt in position in tooling (A). 2. Put the spring under compression. Makee sure that the bolt is in alignment with the hole in pilot. Install nut (1) on the bolt.3. The assembled length of the spring is 23.75 in. (60.3 cm).4. Remove the spring from tooling (A).5.
