Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Remove the front tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Remove and Install".
Release the oil pressure from the braking system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Remove the front drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Front) - Remove and Install".Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. The exterior of the component is cleaned before the removal procedure. Cleaning will prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a pressure system.Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.Do not disconnect or remove hoses or fittings until all pressure in the system has been relieved.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Drain the differential and final drive oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the differential and final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change" for the proper draining procedure.

Remove guards (1), (2), (3) and (4) .

Remove two bolts (5) and the purge screw manifold for the front wheel brakes.

Disconnect hose assemblies (6) and (7) .

Disconnect brake cooling hose assemblies (8) and (9) .

Remove handrail (10) and fender (11) from the left side of the machine.

Disconnect wiring harness (14). Remove handrail (12) and fender (13) from the right side of the machine.

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to each side of the axle housing. The weight of the front axle housing and differential is approximately 2330 kg (5140 lb).

Remove four locknuts (16), four nuts (15) and the four bolts from each side of the axle housing.
Lower the rear axle housing and differential to the ground. If required use jacking bolts, installed in bolt holes (17) to remove the axle housing.
