Information:

Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Topping off or mixing Cat ELC with other products that do not meet Caterpillar EC-1 specifications reduces the effectiveness of the coolant, shortens coolant service life, and may cause premature wear to components.Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants. Use only Extender with Cat ELC.Failure to follow these recommendations can result in shortened cooling system component life.
When a Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is used, an Extender must be added to the cooling system.

(1) Cooling system pressure cap access cover
(2) Cooling system pressure cap The cooling system pressure cap is located at the front of the engine enclosure forward of the engine air precleaner.
Open cooling system pressure cap access cover (1) in order to access cooling system pressure cap (2).
Slowly loosen the cooling system pressure cap in order to relieve system pressure. Remove the cooling system pressure cap.
Use a 8T-5296 Coolant Test Kit to check the concentration of the coolant. If necessary, adjust the concentration of the coolant.

(3) Cooling system drain hose
(4) Cooling system drain valve
If necessary, drain enough coolant from the cooling system in order to allow the addition of the Extender. The cooling system drain valve is mounted on the inside of the left-hand frame rail behind the rear axle. If equipped, remove the bottom guard in order to access the cooling system drain valve.
If coolant must be drained from the cooling system, position a suitable container beneath cooling system drain hose (3). Open cooling system drain valve (4). Allow sufficient coolant to drain into the container.
Close the cooling system drain valve and install the bottom guard.
Add 3 L (100 fl oz) of Extender to the cooling system.
Check the coolant level. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
Install the cooling system pressure cap. Close the cooling system pressure cap access cover.
