The electric retarding grid resistors may experience excessive insulator wear.Solution
Regularly inspect the electric retarding grid insulators and replace the element when the amount of wear reaches a predetermined level to prevent damage to the electric retarding grid resistors.Procedure
Inspect the electric retarding grid resistors every 500 hours.
Use the following guidelines to determine the amount of wear and action required:

Normal to mild wear
No action is necessary if the wear is normal to mild as shown in Illustration 1.

Moderate wear
Document and continue to inspect if the wear is moderate. Replacement of the grid resistor element is not required in case of moderate wear. Refer to Illustration 2 for moderate wear.

Excessive wear
If the wear is excessive into the area of the isolator that retains the grid resistor element, replace the resistor element. Refer to Illustration 3 for excessive wear.
