PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE DRIVE MOTOR MOUNTING WASHERS ON CERTAIN SKID STEER LOADERS
MODELS INVOLVED - 236B3 and 252B3 Skid Steer Loaders
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The 9H-1024 Washer needs to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing washer's inner diameter is too large and can lead to premature loosening of the bolts. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 01Dec2011 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
1. Place machine onto floor lift, approved blocks or jack stands. Remove all four tires from machine. After removal of tires, remove all 12 chain box cover bolts using a 13mm socket. After bolts are removed, use a hammer to loosen plate for easy removal by hitting the center of the plate with a rubber mallet, it should break the seal of cover. After chain box cover is removed, loosen retaining bolt on drive motor. This must be done so the sprockets can be pushed out slightly in order to gain access to all bolts without loosening axles. Refer to Image1.1.1.

2. Using a 14mm, 12 point socket, remove two mounting bolts at a time, following a star pattern. After removing bolt, replace with new 361-2657 Bolt and use two 165-0142 Washers in place of the 9H-1024 Thick Washer. Ensure that the mounting surface is clean of any oil prior to installation. Tighten all drive motor bolts to a specified torque of 190 ?0/+15 N.m.
Note: To gain access to the 2 bolts blocked by the inner (rear) chain, loosen the bolts on the rear axle and slide the axle forward. Take care not to pinch the O-Ring. If additional access is needed, slide drive motor sprockets out slightly. Once rework has been made and all drive motor bolts are tightened, refer to SEBU8495, Operation and Maintenance Manual, Maintenance Section, ?Drive Chain Tension ? Check/Adjust?, for the proper procedure to re-tension the chain and tighten the axle bolts. Refer to Image1.2.1. for clarification on the location of the 2 bolts.

3. After replacing all drive motor bolts, remove the old sealant from both frame and chain box cover prior to reinstalling cover. Refer to Image1.3.1.
Once old sealant has been removed, apply a smooth, even coat of Loctite 598 RTV sealant forming circles around all holes and carrying a bead around the plate
