Shipping the Machine
SMCS Code: 7000-7500.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for shipping instructions for your machine.Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there will be adequate clearance if the machine being transported is equipped with a FOPS, cab or canopy. To prevent the machine from slipping during loading or shifting in transit, remove ice, snow or other slippery material from the loading dock and the area of the transport.
Obey all state and local laws governing the weight, width and length of a load.Remove the starting aid (ether) cylinder, if equipped.Make sure the cooling system has proper antifreeze if moving machine to a colder climate.Observe all regulations governing wide loads.
1. Block the trailer or rail car wheels before loading (trailer shown). 2. Move the transmission control lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.3. Engage the parking brake (2).4. Stop the engine.5. Turn the start key switch to the OFF position and remove the key.6. Turn the battery disconnect key switch to the OFF position and remove the key.7. Secure the machine with tie-downs when transporting on a rail car or a tractor-trailer.8. Cover the exhaust opening to prevent the turbocharger from "windmilling" in transit. Damage can occur if the turbocharger rotates and the engine is not running. To protect the cooling system, mix the antifreeze and water solution to provide protection to the lowest expected outside temperature, or drain the cooling systems completely.Obey state and local laws governing weight, width and the height of the load.Roading the Machine
SMCS Code: 7000-7500.Before you road a machine, consult your tire dealer for recommended tire pressures and for speed limitations.Limitations for TON-kilometer per hour (TON-mile per hour) must be obeyed. Consult your tire dealer for the speed limit of the tires that are used. When you travel for long distances, schedule stops to allow the tires and components to cool. Stop for 30 minutes after every 40 km (25 miles) or after every hour.Perform a Walk-Around Inspection and measure the fluid levels in each of the compartments.Bring the engine coolant, the crankcase oil and the transmission oil up to the correct levels.Inflate the tires to the correct pressure.Use a self-attaching inflation chuck to inflate the tires. Stand behind the tire tread while you inflate the tires. Refer to the topic Tire Inflation Information for information on tire inflation.Check with the proper officials to obtain the required licenses and other similar items.Travel at a moderate speed. Observe all limitations when you road the machine.Lifting and Tying Down the Machine
SMCS Code: 7000-7500
Improper lifting or tie-downs can allow the machine to shift and can cause damage to the machine.
1. Weight and instructions given herein apply to machine as manufactured by Caterpillar.* A complete truck (69D Dump Truck) weighs 34 400 kg (75,700 lb).* A complete truck (69D Ejector Truck) weighs 36 800 kg (81,144 lb).2. For lifting objects, use properly rated cables and slings. Position the crane for a level machine lift.3. Spreader bar widths should be sufficient for preventing contact with the machine.4. Use the two rear holes
