Start By:a. remove radiatorb. remove hydraulic pumpc. remove fan assembly 1. Remove three capscrews (1) and remove retainer plate (2). Note the position of the timing marks for the pulley, indicated by the arrows. The end of the crankshaft is marked and the pulley also has a corresponding mark. Remove pulley (3). It may be necessary to use a puller. Measure the depth, that the seal is installed, into the timing gear cover and install the new seal to the same depth. The lip of the seal must be toward the crankshaft gear.2. Remove lip seal (4). It may be necessary to drill three small holes in the seal and use a slide hammer type puller to remove seal (4).
Typical Example This illustration shows tooling (A) being used to install lip seal (4).*New, improved crankshaft front oil seals have a dust lip protrusion molded on to the front of the seal. The centering tool (PD162) must be reworked as shown in this illustration to prevent damage to this dust lip when the new type seal is installed. At the time of installation of the front pulley, tighen the three capscrews that retain the pulley, to a torque of 95 N m (70 lb.ft.). Install in the reverse order.
