Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.Do not check for pin hole leaks in pump or motor hoses during a steer stall condition. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
General Inspection
Make sure that covers and guards are securely in place. Inspect the implement for damage.
Check for loose wheel bolts. Tighten loose wheel bolts.Reference: See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Wheel Bolt - Tighten" for the procedure to torque the wheel bolts.
Check for low air pressure in the tires. If necessary, inflate the tires to the recommended pressure.Reference: See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Tire Inflation - Check" for additional information.
Inspect the roading lights and the slow moving vehicle sign. Make sure that these components are clean and operational.
Check the implement for loose hardware and for missing hardware. Replace any hardware that is missing.
Remove the following debris from the implement:
Trash
Rocks
Buildup of mudPay special attention to the following areas:
Frame
Implement hitch
Walking beam
Shanks
Disc gangs
Wing hinges
Harrow
Check for oil leaks. Correct any oil leaks. Pay special attention to the following areas:
Cylinders
Hydraulic hoses
Inspect all hydraulic lines and hydraulic hoses for the following conditions:.
Damage
Excessive wear
LoosenessAs required, repair the hydraulic lines or replace the hydraulic lines.
Inspect the condition of the following components on each shank:
Sweep
Shank Assembly
Mounting HardwareAs required, replace the components.
Make sure that the jam nuts are tightened on the turnbuckle.Reference: If necessary, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Implement Adjustments" for additional information.
If equipped, inspect the following items on the attached harrow:
Mounting brackets and hardware
Adjustment of harrow
